VMHTI Year II (2011-12)

Veterans’ Mental Health Training Initiative

NASW-NYS has launched year two of its Veterans’ Mental Health Training Initiative (VMHTI) with grant funding from the NYS Health Foundation and will offer four regional trainings across the state aimed at enhancing the capacity of community mental health providers to meet the needs of returning veterans and their families.

Training Audience: Social Workers, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Mental Health Practitioners, Addictions Counselors, and other allied providers.

Training Content Areas:
Military Cultural Competence, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Screening, Referral, and Diagnosis, Mental Illness & Chemical Abuse (MICA) Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral and Treatment (SBIRT), Advocacy for Veterans in the Justice System, Anxiety /Traumatic Stress/PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma/Domestic Violence, Psychopharmacology for Non-Medically Trained Providers, Developing a Community that Embraces our Military Families, The Military Family Experience

Extended sessions on:
Imagery Rescripting Therapy for Nightmares Related to Deployment
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia Related to Deployment
Suicide Prevention and Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale
