To All NASW-NYS Members:
Greetings from White Plains! I wish to thank you for electing me as your MSW Student Representative for the 2011-2012 Term, and for your continued support of NASW this year and hopefully for many years to come.
Since June of this year, I have witnessed the tireless efforts of NASW-NYS board members. These men and women are working very hard to make certain the interests of social workers from all fields of practice across the state are represented on the local, state and national levels. NASW-NYS is truly an organization of social workers working for social workers!
During these challenging economic times NASW-NYS leadership continues to advocate for our profession and those we serve, while promoting opportunities for continuing education across the state.
In my role as MSW Student Representative my focus is exploring how prepared current MSW students are regarding entering our profession. Do you feel confident in your ability to become a licensed practitioner? Are you knowledgeable about how to enter the profession working in an interdisciplinary manner with other licensed professionals? Do the career search tools offered by NASW-NYS meet your needs? My goal is to listen to you and learn how NASW-NYS can better support students and facilitate our entry into the social work profession.
I look forward to meeting you in future videoconference sessions and in-person meetings starting January 2012 through the spring semester. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the 2012 Power of Social Work Conference March 16, 2012 in Albany. Above all take care, be well and have a terrific year!
Onward,
Christina Horsford, MPA
