CHAPTER COMMENTS ON EMERGENCY SOCIAL WORK REGULATIONS

As we have extensively reported throughout the year, many changes are pending with regard to social work licensure.  While we await regulation promulgation on the corporate practice and agency extension bill, we’ve been busy communicating with the State Education Department regarding proposed emergency regulations that were adopted at the June 21-22, 2010 meeting of the Board of Regents relating to the licensure of licensed master social workers and licensed clinical social workers. A Notice of Proposed Rule Making with a summary of the proposed amendments was published in the State Register on June 30, 2010, and can be accessed here.  As an emergency measure, the amendments will require final approval and are expected to be taken up at the September 13-14th meeting of the Board of Regents.  The official comment period on the amendments ends on August 16, 2010, as such, the NYS and NYC Chapters have entered joint comments, which you may access here.  We have also, as part of the Social Work Licensure Alliance, entered comments which may be viewed here.
