NASW Profile

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization for professional social workers in the world. The New York State Chapter of NASW, with over 12,000 members across the state (excluding the five boroughs) is dedicated to enhancing professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards and to advance sound social policies.

Our social workers are employed in a variety of settings including: mental health clinics, health care facilities, schools, nursing homes, managed care, social service agencies, businesses, criminal justice and government.

A recent study on NASW member demographics (Practice Research Survey 2000) profiles the typical member as follows:

  • Hold’s a Master’s or higher degree in social work.
