in the Press
September 7, 2006 - Chapter President Mary McCarthy wrote a Letter to the Editor of the Albany Times Union that was published in response to an article they published about a criminal case in Rensselaer County in which CPS workers (erroneously identified in the article as social workers) testified about information they received from the defendant (without an attorney present), actions which subsequently led to the verdict being overturned and the case to be re-tried. The letter to the editor addresses the differences between caseworkers and social workers and the need to professionalize the child welfare workforce.
