Despite Opposition ASWB Passes Measure to Impose New Exam Rates
Effective: January 1, 2010
NASW-NYS voiced our opposition to an increase in the exam fees charged by the Association of Social Work Boards, national sponsor of the social work licensing exams. NASW-NYS Executive Director Ray Cardona submitted a letter to the Executive Secretary of the NYS Social Work Board, Dr. David Hamilton, urging the board as an ASWB member to vote against the measure. In October a member alert was posted on our website and emailed to members regarding the pending ASWB action providing members with the opportunity to weigh in on the measure. Dr. Hamilton wrote a letter to the Executive Director of ASWB expressing the NYS Social Work Board and State Education Department’s concerns and stating their plan to vote against the proposed increase. Despite opposition voiced by a number of state boards including NY’s and the economic climate facing members of the social work profession, ASWB has announced that the measure was approved in a vote at their annual meeting. The increased rates will go into effect for candidates who register on or after January 1, 2010.
