Suicide Prevention Resources

www.thetrevorhelpline.org  - The Trevor Project provides a variety of services including a 24 hour hotline and educational material to assist LGBTQ youth who are experiencing difficulties in dealing with coming out, relationship issues, suicide.

http://www.orgsites.com/ny/samaritans-albany  - The Samaritans provide a crisis hotline for individuals experiencing suicidal ideation.  They also provide Survivor Outreach as well as Survivor Support Groups.  This group is also responsible for managing the 211 line in the Northeast Region which is a comprehensive referral line for a variety of personal needs.

www.afsp.org  - The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention  provides a variety of services including survivor support and outreach.  They also compile a great deal of information regarding best practices in the field of suicide prevention.  Training is provided in suicide prevention for counselors and other groups.

www.omh.state.ny.us - The New York State Office of Mental Health has conducted a variety of training sessions to support suicide prevention.  The SPEAK Campaign provides kits with information about suicide prevention.  These kits are available in a variety of languages.

http://www.socialworkers.org/practice/adolescent_health/shift  - SHIFT is a tool kit developed by NASW to address the issue of teen suicide in adolescent girls. The toolkit is available on the NASW website.
